Paul Anthony Smith

After discovering his work in a flat file group show in the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, the gallery presented Jamaican-American Paul Anthony Smith’s international solo debut in 2013, the first of three solo gallery shows and two solo booths (Expo Chicago and miart, Milan) as well as other group presentations through 2019. The artist has also been exhibited and collected by dozens of museums and received significant press. ZieherSmith featured both his works on canvas and his pictoage, a signature process he developed in which he picks at the emulsified surface, resulting in a surface that Holland Cotter described as “clouds of scintillation.” (The New York Times). Whether his imagery is personal or re-appropriated, the artist stated, “Just as history never fully reveals itself, being created from and by those who participated in that particular moment, these disguised images remain a memorial of past time.”

Solo exhibitions: Procession 2017, Yellow Tail Never Kick Rocks 2015, Transcience 2013
